Camden: not just a home but a lifestyle
Camden is one of the few places in London where it offers a quality life style to its diverse inhabitants. Camden’s latest homes attracts everyone, rich or poor, from media types, pop stars and bankers to destitute writers and drop-outs. Camden Town is a place where Bohemian community co-exist with the urban population.
The busy Camden Lock stills offer places to relax and revive. The Henson, a new apartment scheme alongside colourful Camden Lock, is evidence of the neighbourhood's growing status among serious fashionistas. Camden's lively market area, which attracts a diverse crowd, is almost on the doorstep to ‘The Henson’ with a "back door" on to leafy Primrose Hill where the town houses offer spectacular views of the area.
The Henson's two penthouses will be ready by summer 2010. These have been already attracting curiosity visits from celebrity singers and media entrepreneurs. According to Robert Soning, the Chief Executive, most of their buyers work in fashion, film, theatre, music, web design or the City and are prepared to pay a little extra for quality design.
The development, in Oval Road, has 24-hour concierge, valet parking, bicycle pool and private courtyard gardens. Buyers on middling budgets may like the Camden vibe. The 32-flat Glass Building, designed by Piers Gough, has given the area much publicity. Gilbey House, a former bottling plant, has 76 flats. There has been quick resales at The Ice Works and The Lockhouse developments, facing The Henson on the opposite side of the canal.
The Canal-side regeneration has prettified the area much while the Eurostar terminal now puts Paris barely two hours away.
A wider development will take place with the creation of Canal Lock village, as the Camden council has approved brief with Chelsfield, property company for 130 new homes. There will be a new covered market with rooftop pavilions linked by walkways. |
