In the north of the borough is Hampstead Heath, one of London’s leading open places, comprising of about 800 acres of mixed grassland and woodland. It is a sort of more than parkland than heath but it does bear good deal of semi-wild areas, parts of extended tree cover, and a number of small lakes earmarked for boating and swimming.
